    Trade-Grade Paints & Proper Preparation

    Our Step-by-Step Process

Step 1: Site Visit & Consultation

We visit your property to assess the scope of work, discuss your colour preferences and finish requirements, and measure up. This is also when we check the condition of surfaces and identify any preparation work that will be needed. You will receive a clear, itemised quote broken down by room or area.

Step 2: Scheduling & Paint Selection

Once you approve the quote, we agree a start date that works for you. We purchase all paint and materials in advance so there are no delays. If you have not finalised your colours, we can bring a few tester pots so you can see how they look on your walls in different lighting conditions.

Step 3: Protection & Surface Preparation

We cover floors with heavy-duty dust sheets, mask light switches, sockets, window glass and any fixtures with quality masking tape, and move furniture clear of the work area. We then fill cracks and holes, sand surfaces smooth, treat any damp or mould spots, and apply primer or stain blocker where needed.

Step 4: Painting — First Coat

We apply the first coat of paint using the appropriate technique for each surface — roller for walls and ceilings, brush for cutting in and woodwork. We allow proper drying time between coats (no rushing) and inspect each surface before moving on.

Step 5: Second Coat & Detail Work

The second coat is applied for full, even coverage. We then go back and do the detail work — touching up any edges, ensuring clean lines between walls and woodwork, and making sure the finish is uniform. For woodwork, we apply an undercoat plus top coat as standard.

    Step 6: Inspection, Tidy-Up & Handover

We do a thorough walk-through of every painted surface in good lighting to check for any imperfections. Masking tape is carefully removed, dust sheets folded, furniture replaced, and any paint splashes on glass or fixtures cleaned off. We leave you with a clean, finished result you can enjoy straight away.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do you help with choosing colours and finishes?

Yes — we are always happy to offer advice based on our experience. We can suggest which finishes work best in different rooms (for example, wipeable matt for hallways and kitchens, or durable eggshell for woodwork). If you are unsure about colours, we recommend getting a few tester pots and trying them on the wall before committing.

How do you protect our furniture and floors during painting?

We cover all floors with heavy-duty dust sheets, mask edges and fixtures carefully with quality masking tape, and move furniture to the centre of the room or out of the way entirely. We tidy up at the end of each day so you are never left living in a building site.

Do you paint exteriors as well as interiors?

Absolutely. We paint exterior masonry, render, fascias, soffits, window sills, doors, garage doors and fencing. For exterior work, we schedule around the weather and use paints specifically formulated for outdoor use to ensure a lasting, durable finish.

What paint brands do you use?

We use trade-grade paints from trusted brands including Dulux Trade, Johnstone's Trade, and Crown Trade. These are thicker, more durable and offer better coverage than their retail equivalents. We are happy to use a specific brand if you have a preference.

How long does it take to paint a room?

A standard room (walls and ceiling) usually takes one to two days including preparation and two coats of paint. Woodwork such as skirting boards, door frames and doors may add an extra half day to a day depending on the amount of prep needed. We always give you an honest timeframe upfront.

Can you deal with damp stains or mould before painting?

Yes. We treat affected areas with specialist mould wash and stain-blocking primer before applying the top coats. This prevents stains from bleeding through the new paint. However, if there is an ongoing damp problem (such as a leak), we will advise you to get that resolved first so the paint job lasts.

Do you do wallpapering as well?

We can handle feature walls and straightforward wallpapering. For complex patterned wallpaper across entire rooms, we would recommend a specialist paperhanger and can put you in touch with one if needed.

What areas do you cover for painting and decorating?

We cover Crawley, Brighton & Hove, Horsham, Redhill, East Grinstead, Haywards Heath, Uckfield, Oxted, Croydon, Kenley, Warlingham and the wider Sussex, Surrey and West Kent area.
